This year, Northwestern’s Division of Student Affairs created the Center for Student Advocacy and Wellness (CSAW), combining Health Promotion and Wellness (HPaW) and the Center for Awareness, Response & Education (CARE) into one unit.

The unified CSAW provides outreach and education around holistic wellness, offering one-on-one support like wellness coaching and confidential advocacy, opportunities to engage in prevention and wellness education through programs such as Red Watch Band and bystander intervention training, and spaces to connect through groups like MindfulNU, the Reading and Resilience Book Club and the art-focused survivor support group.

Services include:

  • Confidential advocacy and support for those impacted by sexual violence
  • Alcohol screening and prevention
  • Sexual health consultations
  • Spiritual direction
  • Wellness coaching

“I'm incredibly proud of our team,” said Carrie Wachter, CSAW director. “We’re fortunate to have such talented individuals offering a wide range of impactful resources. Our services are grounded in harm reduction, trauma-informed care with a student-centered approach.”
