Northwestern will hold its 168th Commencement ceremony Sunday, June 14, 2026, at the United Center in Chicago, the University has announced.
The United Center served as the Commencement venue for the previous two graduating classes. The arena will host the ceremony once again as work continues to rebuild Ryan Field, which historically has been the site of University commencements.
“Our goal every year is always to give our graduates a celebration that reflects the significance of their accomplishments,” said Matt Lengen, executive director for graduation. “The United Center’s team has been an outstanding partner in helping us create a memorable experience for our students and for their families and guests.”
Commencement and convocations — the ceremonies during which each graduate crosses the stage — are part of Graduation Weekend, which will take place June 12-15, 2026. All school convocations happening during Graduation Weekend will take place on the Evanston campus.
Northwestern Qatar’s graduation events will take place on Monday, May 4, 2026. Convocation for the Pritzker School of Law’s Class of 2026 will be on Friday, May 15, and commencement for Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is set for Monday, May 18. Students will receive additional information about these ceremonies later in the academic year.
The United Center is located at 1901 West Madison St. on Chicago’s Near West Side. United Center parking will be available for free during the ceremony, and more transportation information will be shared closer to the event. Graduates will receive more information about the ticketing process and regalia in February.
The Graduation Weekend website is the primary source of information for schedules, family and guest content, accessibility information and frequently asked questions. Details for other celebratory events taking place across campus will be communicated and added to the website in the coming months.
