Statement on cheer team lawsuit

On Jan. 29, the University was made aware of a lawsuit filed by a member of Northwestern’s cheer team. The University has reviewed the complaint and denies that Northwestern violated any law, including Title IX.

We take all reports seriously and appreciate the courage it takes for members of our community to come forward to raise concerns. In this case, the University’s Office of Equity took multiple actions to address reports it received, culminating in a thorough investigation. The cheer coach referenced in the complaint is no longer an employee of the University.

Northwestern is committed to fostering an environment in which all members of our community are safe, secure and free from discrimination or harassment of any form.
