COVID-19 webinar on April 16 focuses on ocean shipping and supply chains

Transportation Center’s third virtual roundtable is part of series with industry leaders and academic experts

The Northwestern University Transportation Center will hold its third Asynchronous Virtual Roundtable, “Ocean Shipping and Supply Chains Under COVID-19,” at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 16.

In a series of interviews, three industry professionals will explore supply chain disruptions and industry challenges and discuss their experiences in the era of COVID-19. Hani S. Mahmassani, director of the Transportation Center, will moderate and then take questions from the audience.

This week’s speakers are:

  • Ricaurte Vásquez is the administrator of the Panama Canal and has more than 30 years of experience in financial and international capital market management and in the public sector.  
  • Steven Rothberg is founding partner of Mercator International and has 42 years of diversified experience in international freight transportation.
  • Brandy D. Christian is president and CEO of the Port of New Orleans as well as CEO of the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad Corp., a shortline connecting railroad and subsidiary of the port.  

“We are providing a first-hand look at the critical issues and challenges facing people on the front lines as they keep essential goods moving during this unprecedented crisis,” Mahmassani said when launching the series.

The target audiences for the Asynchronous Virtual Roundtables are people in industry, people who are dealing with goods being transported, the academic community and government officials, but the general public and media also are welcome.

This is the third in a total of six scheduled Asynchronous Virtual Roundtables. Recordings of previous roundtables as well as details on those in the future are available on the Northwestern University Transportation Center website.
