EVANSTON, Ill. --- Daily life and complex realities blend together in the mixed media work of Eduin Fraga
“Images of My Experience,” a display of Fraga’s work, will be exhibited Feb. 13 through March 18 at Northwestern University’s Dittmar Memorial Gallery, located inside Norris University Center, 1999 Campus Drive on the Evanston campus.
Born in Havana in 1974, Fraga began painting 15 years ago. In his work, he focuses on social themes and uses mixed media collage with acrylic, charcoal and other materials. His unique art includes article excerpts and images from various Cuban and American newspapers on canvas or cardboard as a means of capturing dynamic fragments of the societies in which he lives. Through this approach, he tries to create within each painting a historical register of past events, processes and experiences that have shaped society today.
Fraga graduated from the Experimental Center of Visual Arts in Havana in 2012. He has been invited to present his work in galleries and universities throughout the U.S. and in Cuba. His most recent work is part of the Northwestern Mutual Insurance’s Giving Gallery, a 2018 exhibit that focused on philanthropic partnerships in Milwaukee. Fraga divides his time between Cuba and the U.S.
An opening reception will be held Feb. 13 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Dittmar Gallery. Admission is free and open to the public.
Dittmar Gallery admission is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Sundays, except when a new exhibition is being mounted.
