New immune culprit discovered in Alzheimer’s disease

As people age, their cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) immune system becomes dysregulated. In people with cognitive impairment, such as those with Alzheimer’s disease, the CSF immune system is drastically different from healthy individuals, a new study discovered. This discovery provides a new clue to the process of neurodegeneration.

Community violence interventionists face on-the-job violence, trauma

Scientists found that the single-year rates of gun violence and victimization among community violence mediators exceed those of Chicago police. The data come from a landmark survey of the street outreach workforce in Chicago, the Violence Intervention Workers Study (VIeWS), conducted in 2021 by sociologists from Northwestern University and the University at Albany, SUNY. The research team sought to provide a comprehensive look at these “first responders” who play a pivotal role in violence prevention.

Immigration expert available on litigation against McHenry County Sheriff

Political science professor Jacqueline Stevens is available to explain the lawsuit against McHenry County and how it fits with related class action lawsuits going forward across the country. Her research has been credited with this litigation, including a 2021 jury verdict ordering the GEO Group to pay $17.3 million in damages and $5.9 million in unjust enrichment. Professor Stevens also is available to respond to current policy questions about President Biden’s new plans for the U.S.-Mexico border.
