Anthropologists examine prevalence of injuries caused by water fetching

Northwestern researchers Sera Young, associate professor of anthropology and a fellow at the University’s Institute for Policy Research, and Vidya Venkataramanan, postdoctoral fellow in anthropology at Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences and the Center for Water Research, are co-authors of a large, multi-country study revealing the widespread nature of water-fetching injuries in low- and middle-income countries.

The series includes an innovative approach to Rudyard Kipling’s “The Jungle Book,” as well as a personal reflection of “The Apple Tree’s Discovery,” a story based on a Jewish folktale. Other student performed stories include “The Thread of Yarn,” an original piece about the powerful connections of family and “The Elephant in the Zoom,” a story told with puppets that celebrates identity and friendship.

Presidential debate: ‘With COVID-19 surging…it’s not going to be possible to ignore it and move forward’

Northwestern University professors are available to comment on the final presidential debate on Thursday, Oct. 22. According to the Commission on Presidential debates, the six topics President Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden will discuss include “Fighting COVID-19,” “American Families,” “Race in America,” “Climate Change,” “National Security” and “Leadership.”
