Spooky cinema
See a rare 16mm screening of “The Fool Killer” by Servando González. Appalachian folklore tells of a wanderer who searches for fools to rid from the earth with a swing of his axe. In this film, the mythical figure takes the form of a charismatic but volatile amnesiac Civil War veteran who takes a 12-year-old runaway under his wing. The tale evokes the wonders and terrors of childhood while chronicling the turmoil of the Reconstruction era.
The screening is at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30, in The Block Museum of Art, 40 Arts Circle Drive, Evanston. RSVP here.
Celebrate seniors
Watch men’s soccer take the field against Indiana and celebrate senior night in one of their final home games of the season.
Kick-off is at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium, 2235 Campus Drive, Evanston.
