It’s Homecoming and Reunion Weekend, with Northwestern football taking on Louisiana Monroe on Saturday. Here are a few more campus events to add to your calendar this week. As always, all are welcome!

Stories and poems

Ananda Lima, author of the short story collection “Craft: Stories I Wrote for the Devil” and the poetry collection “Mother/land,” reads from her work. A conversation with Northwestern’s Juan Martinez will follow.

The reading is at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, in room 201, University Hall, 1897 Sheridan Road, Evanston.

A lens to the past

Photographer and Evanston native Ann Kogen’s work comes to the Dittmar Gallery in the exhibition “Street,” which takes viewers back to the 1980s through candid street photographs of life in cities from Chicago to Cairo.

The exhibition’s opening reception is at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, in Dittmar Gallery, Norris University Center, 1999 Campus Drive, Evanston.

A new eye on the universe

Harvard’s Christopher W. Stubbs delivers the Center for Interdisciplinary Exploration and Research in Astrophysics’ annual public lecture. Stubbs will discuss the Vera C. Rubin Observatory, dark matter, dark energy and other secrets of the cosmos.

The talk is at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, in the Ryan Family Auditorium, Technological Institute, 2145 Sheridan Road, Evanston. Register here. The lecture will also be livestreamed here.

The art of horror

The Block Museum of Art presents “El Espejo de la Bruja/The Witch’s Mirror,” an entertaining Gothic horror film exploring witchcraft and medical malpractice. The screening will be followed by a short Q&A (in English with Spanish translation) between Ph.D. student Emily Masincup and Chicago film programmer Raul Benitez.

The screening is at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, in The Block Museum of Art, 40 Arts Circle Drive, Evanston. Register here.

Turn up the bass

Prolific composer and jazz bassist Rufus Reid ’71 returns to his alma mater for a performance accompanied by Rob Dixon, saxophone, Steve Allee, piano, and Kenneth Salters, drums.
