Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, currently located on Sheridan Road in the center of Northwestern University’s Evanston campus, will move to a new location on Northwestern grounds, Garrett leaders announced today.

The move, anticipated in 2027, is part of the GarrettNEXT strategic plan, which aims to improve access to theological education while strengthening the seminary’s partnership with Northwestern.

“Northwestern is thrilled to share in Garrett’s next chapter, expanding access to the vibrant scholarship established in Garrett’s 172-year history,” Northwestern Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Luke Figora said. “Garrett has long occupied a prominent position in the center of Northwestern’s Evanston campus, and we look forward to this new chapter in our nearly two-century partnership that expands opportunities in the research and teaching missions of both institutions.”

The move marks a milestone in the two institutions’ partnership, serving a variety of academic, administrative and student needs.

“Garrett is embracing the future of theological education with bold vision and a deep commitment to shaping the next generation of religious leadership,” said the Reverend Dr. Javier A. Viera, president of Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. “Our strategic campus relocation will decrease barriers to educational access, let us invest more fully in our faculty and their research, and help us equip our students to become courageous leaders by meeting them where they are geographically, vocationally and spiritually.”

Additional details about the relocation, including the anticipated timeline, will be released in the coming months.
