This week, we’ve got chances to refresh and reflect, whether you want to appreciate The Block’s latest exhibition, hear soprano and scientist Heidi Moss Erickson’s remarkable story or just relax at a winter wellness event.

And if you missed it last week, don’t forget to check out the Dolphin Show’s final weekend of performances. Here’s what else to put on your calendar.

A changing world

Join the Buffett Institute for a book talk from Weinberg’s Sarah Dimick, author of “Unseasonable: Climate Change in Global Literatures.” Dimick’s work examines how, as climate change alters seasons around the globe, literature registers and responds to shifting environmental times. A reception will follow.

The talk is at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29, on the second floor of 720 University Place, Evanston. Register here.

Surrealist sensation

If you’re a fan of “Twin Peaks” or anything with a tinge of the surreal, join the Department of English to celebrate the life and art of director David Lynch. Talk all things Lynch, watch some clips and enjoy themed refreshments.

Drop in starting at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30, in room 201, University Hall, 1897 Sheridan Road, Evanston.

Home away from home

Thinking about moving off-campus? Stop by the housing fair to learn about a variety of housing options and resources. Property managers, landlords and members of the Metropolitan Tenants Organization will also be present to answer your questions.

The fair is at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, at Norris University Center, 1999 Campus Drive, Evanston.

Chicago through Indigenous perspectives

The Block Museum hosts the opening celebration for the exhibition “Woven Being: Art for Zhegagoynak/Chicagoland,” which highlights the Indigenous creativity of the area now known as Chicago. Explore the galleries and enjoy hands-on activities, followed by a discussion with several exhibition artists and a reception.

The event begins at noon on Saturday, Feb. 1, at The Block Museum, 40 Arts Circle Drive, Evanston, with the opening program at 2 p.m. in Galvin Recital Hall, Ryan Center for the Musical Arts, 70 Arts Circle Drive, Evanston. Register here.

Notes and neuroscience

In 2007, soprano and scientist Heidi Moss Erickson suffered a cranial nerve injury that nearly ended her performing career. Harnessing her research background, she embarked on a self-rehabilitation journey. Now, together with her husband — composer, pianist and pedagogue Kurt Erickson — she weaves together music, neuroscience, literature and personal narratives for a reflection on how our stories shape our art.

The concert is at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3, in Galvin Recital Hall, Ryan Center for the Musical Arts, 70 Arts Circle Drive, Evanston. Buy tickets here.

On the court

Northwestern men’s basketball takes on recent Big Ten admit USC on Tuesday evening. Come out to cheer on the ’Cats at home before they head across the country for their Seattle matchup.

The game tips off at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Welsh-Ryan Arena, 2705 Ashland Ave., Evanston. Buy tickets here.
