Handmade holiday fun

Create unique holiday card collages to share with your friends and family during a free holiday event at ARTica Studios.

The event begins at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at ARTica Studios, Norris University Center, 1999 Campus Drive, Evanston.

Honoring Northwestern’s own

Enjoy the Northwestern University Jazz Orchestra’s second fall quarter performance, which highlights music by Bienen School of Music faculty members Tom Garling and Joe Clark.

The concert is at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, at Galvin Recital Hall, Ryan Center for the Musical Arts, 70 Arts Circle Drive, Evanston. Buy tickets here.

Worldwide work

Celebrate and learn about global health research, education and outreach during Global Health Day hosted by the Robert J. Havey, MD Institute for Global Health.

The event is on Friday, Dec. 6, at Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center,
303 E. Superior St., Chicago.

Bringing families back together

This month’s Buffett Institute First Friday Lunch features Sara Huston, co-lead of the Institute’s Global FamDNA Working Group, who will discuss her research on utilizing scientific DNA testing technologies to reconnect separated families.

Music and medicine

The Northwestern Medical Orchestra presents “Echoes of Destiny,” a program featuring works by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Giuseppe Verdi and more.

The concert is at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, at Thorne Auditorium, 375 E. Chicago Ave., Chicago. Register here.

Carols in the chapel

A beloved holiday tradition continues with this year’s installment of “A Festival of Lessons and Carols,” a combination of readings and musical gems portraying the Christmas miracle.

The free concert is at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8, at Alice Millar Chapel, 1870 Sheridan Road, Evanston.

Twinkling stars

Tour Northwestern’s historic Dearborn Observatory and get a chance to look through the telescope during weekly public viewing hours. The first hour is by reservation only, but the second hour is open to walk-ins.

This week’s public viewing hours begin at 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, at Dearborn Observatory, 2131 Tech Drive, Evanston. Sign up for the reserved tour waitlist or walk in starting at 9 p.m.

Winter Wildcats

It might be cold outside, but men’s and women’s basketball will bring the heat inside Welsh-Ryan Arena for this month’s home games against DePaul, Illinois, UNLV and more.
