Fire at Hinman and Clark in Evanston causing traffic disruptions

The Evanston Fire Department was working in the late afternoon today (May 8) trying to extinguish a fire in the roof of a building in the 1700 block of Hinman Avenue, near Clark Street, not far from Northwestern University’s Evanston campus.

No injuries were reported, and the fire is out, but there are many emergency vehicles and police and fire officials in the area now. The emergency is causing a disruption of traffic during the evening rush hour. Please avoid the area if you can so emergency units can complete their work.

The fire took place in a building where Northwestern students live, and they were safely evacuated.
