Northwestern Announces Professorships

The Board of Trustees has nominated 30 faculty members to named professorships

EVANSTON, Ill. --- The Northwestern University Board of Trustees has appointed 30 faculty members to named professorships. The professorships will be effective Sept. 1, 2015. 

The faculty members and their appointments are:

Robert Burns
, professor of law at Northwestern Law, has been named the William W. Gurley Memorial Professor of Law. 

Deborah Cohen, Peter B. Ritzma Professor of the Humanities and a professor of history in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Charles Deering McCormick Professor of Teaching Excellence.

Jennie Duggan, assistant professor in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, has been named the Lisa Wissner-Slivka and Benjamin Slivka Professor.

Christine Helmer, professor of religious studies in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Arthur A. Andersen Teaching and Research Professor.

Walter B. Herbst, clinical professor of mechanical engineering and director of the Master of Product Design and Development Management Program in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, has been named the Charles Deering McCormick Distinguished Clinical Professor.

Mark Hersam, professor in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science and the director of the Materials Research Science and Engineering Center, has been named the Walter P. Murphy Professor in Materials Science and Engineering.

Yonggang Huang, the Joseph Cummings Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Civil and Environmental Engineering in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, has been named the Walter P. Murphy Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

Seema Jayachandran, associate professor of economics in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the HSBC Research Professor in Economics.

Rebecca Johnson, assistant professor of English in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences and a fellow in the Alice Kaplan Institute for the Humanities, has been named the Crown Junior Chair in Middle East Studies.

Jennifer Lackey, professor of philosophy in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Wayne and Elizabeth Jones Professor.

Judy Ledgerwood, professor of art in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Alice Welsh Skilling Professor of Art.

Katherine Litvak, professor of law at Northwestern Law, has been named the Benjamin Bazur Summer Research Professor.

Kate Masur, associate professor of history in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Wayne V. Jones II Research Professor in History.

Thomas McDade, professor of anthropology in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences and a faculty fellow in the Institute for Policy Studies, has been named the Carlos Montezuma Professor.

Gary Saul Morson, Frances Hooper Professor of the Arts and Humanities in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Lawrence B. Dumas Distinguished University Professor.

Janice Nadler, professor of law at Northwestern Law, has been named the Stanford Clinton Research Professor.

Ann Shola Orloff, professor of sociology in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Chair of the Board of Lady Managers of the Columbian Exposition.

Michael Peshkin, professor in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, has been named the Bette and Neison Harris Professor in Teaching Excellence.

David N. Rapp, professor of learning sciences in the School of Education and Social Policy and a professor of psychology in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Charles Deering McCormick Professor of Teaching Excellence. 

Leonard L. Riskin, visiting professor of law at Northwestern Law, has been named the Harris H. Agnew Visiting Professor of Dispute Resolution.

Bill Rogerson, the Harold and Virginia Anderson Professor of Economics in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Charles E. and Emma H. Morrison Chair of Market Economics.

Sarah Schrup, clinical assistant professor of law at Northwestern Law, has been named the Harry B. Reese Teaching Professor. 

Laurie Shannon, professor of English in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Franklyn Bliss Snyder Professor in English Literature.

Richard Silverman, the John Evans Professor of Chemistry in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Patrick G. Ryan/Aon Professor.

Karen Smilowitz, associate professor of industrial engineering and management sciences in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, has been named the Charles Deering McCormick Professor of Teaching Excellence.

Amanda Stathopoulos, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, has been named the William Patterson Junior Chair.

Julia Stern, the Charles Deering McCormick Professor of Teaching Excellence and professor of English and American Studies in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Herman and Beulah Pearce Miller Research Professor in Literature.

Jessica Winegar, associate professor of anthropology in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Harold H. and Virginia Anderson Professor.

Kimberly Yuracko, the Stanford Clinton Sr. and Zylpha Kilbride Clinton Research Professorship and professor of law at Northwestern Law, has been named the Judd and Mary Morris Leighton Chair.

Haoqi Zhang, assistant professor of electrical engineering and computer science in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, has been named the Breed Junior Professor of Design.
