EVANSTON, Ill. --- Just in time for the holiday season, Northwestern University’s Henry Crown Sports Pavilion and Norris Aquatics Center is offering Free Fridays, giving non-members the chance to sample the new and expanded fitness facilities on campus.
Faculty and staff are invited to work out free of charge Nov. 21 and Dec. 5, 12 and 19.
If you’re looking to get fit, stay active during the winter months or lose weight, you can do it all on campus. And for those feeling a little extra stress this time of year, Free Fridays also include open house sessions at the new Wellness Suite.
With a spa-like atmosphere, the Wellness Suite features massage treatment rooms, steam showers and a fitness assessment area. Massage therapists, trainers and staff will be on hand to give tours and discuss services. The Wellness Suite open house sessions will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 to 7 p.m. on each of the Free Fridays.
“We’re opening our doors to show people all that we have to offer,” said Nancy Tierney, manager of fitness and wellness. “The bottom line is we want people to walk out of our facilities feeling better than they did when they walked in.”
Northwestern recently unveiled the enhanced Henry Crown Sports Pavilion with 30,000 square feet of new workout space, top-of-the-line equipment and three dedicated studios for fitness classes, yoga and student group activities.
This addition to the facility is the first major upgrade since the Combe Tennis Center opened in 2002, and it coincides with the completion of the North Campus Parking Garage. Read more and take a video tour.
Note: Drivers are required to display parking permits in all campus lots weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Daily and two-hour permits are available for purchase at an automated kiosk (credit cards only) across from the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion entrance. Parking permits issued from the kiosk are valid for visitors, faculty and staff for the day of purchase only. Northwestern students have free access to fitness facilities, and they must purchase permits directly from the parking office.
