Irena Knezevic Receives 3Arts Award

Northwestern visiting professor earns visual arts diversity award

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Northwestern Artist-in-Residence Irena Knezevic received a 2013 award for visual arts from 3Arts, a nonprofit organization that advocates for Chicago artists.

Every year, the organization awards 10 artists working in the fields of dance, music, theatre, visual arts and the teaching arts with $15,000 each. 3Arts works to sustain and promote Chicago’s women artists, artists of color and artists with disabilities. Award recipients are eligible to take advantage of a network of offerings designed to help build momentum in their practice.

“3Arts believes in the value of culture and enacts that belief with acts of direct support,” Knezevic said. “I am proud to be a part of that.”

A Serbian artist, Knezevic works in visual art formats, music and architecture. She has performed and exhibited her work throughout the country, including at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and threewalls.

She has upcoming exhibits in New York and Athens, Greece.
