Guide to Northwestern Convocations

Noted speakers will address Class of 2013 in events across campus

EVANSTON, Ill. --- The colleges and schools of Northwestern University will hold individual convocation events throughout the weekend of June 21 highlighted by speakers with messages honed to their particular audiences.

Northwestern’s main commencement ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, June 21, at Ryan Field in Evanston. Convocation speakers, times and places follow.

Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences
11:30 a.m. June 22, Ryan Field
Alumnus Larry Irving, president and chief executive officer of the Irving Group, a consulting firm serving international telecommunications and information technology companies, will deliver a speech titled “Times Like These.” Irving was one of the principal architects of the Clinton administration’s telecommunications and Internet policy, including the Telecommunications Act of 1996.

Alumna Lydia Diamond is an award-winning playwright and Boston University assistant professor.

School of Law, Feinberg School of Medicine
In addition to events taking place on the Evanston campus during commencement weekend, students from the School of Law and the Feinberg School of Medicine previously participated in convocation exercises. Law students received their degrees May 17 and were addressed by alumnus Mark Walter, chairman and controlling owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Medical students participated in convocation May 23 and heard from Elizabeth G. Nabel, president of Boston's Bringham and Women's Hospital and professor of medicine at the Harvard School of Medicine.
