President Morton Schapiro to Address Garrett Graduates

Receives honorary degrees from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and Notre Dame

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Northwestern University President Morton Schapiro will deliver the commencement address this year at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary’s 156th Commencement ceremony. He will receive an honorary degree there, as well, during the ceremony on Friday (May 17).

President Schapiro also will be awarded an honorary degree by the University of Notre Dame and will receive the distinction when he attends Notre Dame’s 168th University Commencement Ceremony on Sunday (May 19).

At Garrett-Evangelical, President Schapiro will be receiving an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters. Garrett-Evangelical also will be honoring two distinguished alums and more than 80 graduates. Graduation events begin with Senior Chapel at 7 p.m. May 16 in the Chapel of the Unnamed Faithful at Garrett-Evangelical. At Notre Dame, President Schapiro will join four other distinguished figures in business, civil rights, literature and physics -- along with principal speaker Cardinal Timothy Dolan -- as honorary degree recipients at the university’s commencement.
