Beyond the 18 Days: Photojournalism and Egypt

EVANSTON, Ill. – Photojournalist Scout Tufankjian -- whose iconic image of President Obama hugging his wife went viral after the Obama campaign tweeted it with the phrase “four more years” -- will talk about her work covering the 2011 revolution in Egypt on Wednesday, May 1, at Northwestern University.

“Beyond the 18 Days: Photojournalism and Egypt,” is part of the Admiral Weber Lecture Series, made possible by the Admiral Alban “Stormy” Weber Fund. Free and open to the public, it will take place at 7 p.m. in the McCormick Tribune Center Forum, 1870 Campus Drive, Evanston campus.

The event is presented by Northwestern’s political science department, co-hosted by the Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications and will be moderated by School of Communication Professor Hamid Naficy.

An American of Armenian descent, Tufankjian has spent much of her career in the Middle East, including four years in the Gaza Strip. In February 2011, she covered the events in Egypt and their aftermath, particularly on the ultra-religious Salafi community.
