Northwestern University psychologist Douglas Medin will be honored with the William James Lifetime Achievement Award for Basic Research from the Association for Psychological Science.
The award, the APS’s highest honor, recognizes a lifetime of significant intellectual contributions to the basic science of psychology and honors Medin as one whose work has had a profound impact on the field of psychological science over the past quarter century.
Medin is professor of cognitive psychology in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences. He joined Northwestern in 1992. Medin’s research explores the role of protected or moral values and decision-making as well as the role of emotions in decision-making. In collaboration with the University of Washington, the American Indian Center of Chicago, and the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin, Medin and his Northwestern colleagues are studying the role of culture as it relates to knowledge and reasoning about the natural world in children and adults.
