University Library Book Sale Set for May

More than 5,000 items available for purchase, many at bargain prices

EVANSTON, Ill. --- More than 5,000 books, CDs, DVDs and periodicals will be available for purchase by the general public Thursday and Friday, May 10 and 11. That’s when Northwestern University Library’s annual book sale opens up to one and all.

Northwestern students, faculty, staff, and alumni with a valid WildCARD or alumni ID are invited to preview the much-anticipated sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 9.

The event – an annual favorite of book enthusiasts and collectors -- will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Ver Steeg Lounge of Northwestern’s Main Library, 1970 Campus Drive on the Evanston campus.

It features Northwestern University Press overstock, large numbers of classical records in excellent condition and impressive collections in art, architecture, photography, fiction, mathematics and science.

And Friday, May 11, is “Buck-a-Bag” Day, when bargain seekers can fill up a bag with books, videos, DVDs and the like for a mere $1 or fill up a box for just $2. Until then, hardcover books will be priced at $3 each; quality paperbacks at $2 each; and mass-market paperbacks at 50 cents.

So if you’re looking for the collected works of Leonardo Da Vinci, early western paintings and prints of frontier life, biographies of Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill and Jane Addams, and other eclectic and not-so-eclectic items, check out the annual sale.
