Work/Research

Dr. Phillips research focuses on understanding what helps people stay physically active and how regular movement can improve health and extend life. Her work focuses on developing and optimizing digital health interventions and programs to help people become more physically active with a specific emphasis on preventing cancer and supporting those living with or recovering from it. Trained in exercise science, behavior change and public health, she designs and evaluates exercise programs that improve mental, emotional, cognitive and physical well-being and can be implemented into practice. She uses wearable activity trackers to better understand how people move in their daily lives.

Career

Dr. Phillips has published over 100 articles in the areas of aging, physical activity, cancer and implementation sciences. She obtained a PhD in Kinesiology from the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign and a MPH in Quantitative Methods from Harvard University and completed a postdoctoral research fellowship with the Cancer Prevention Fellowship Program at the National Cancer Institute. She is a recipient of the Office of Disease Prevention Early Stage Investigator Lecture Award and a Fellow of the Society of Behavioral Medicine.
