Career

Richards is a recipient of the 2021 National Science Foundation’s CAREER award and the 2020 American Chemical Society’s Distinguished New Investigator Award. His paper titled "Direct measurements of the microstructural origin of shear-thinning in carbon black suspensions." received the Society of Rheology's Publication award in 2023. His invite paper titled, "The Black Powder Behind Battery Power" published in the September 2024 issue of Physics Today outlines the challenges with manufacturing lithium ion batteries and how scientific advances can accelerate battery manufacturing at scale.
