Suspect charged in sexual assault

The following message was sent to the Northwestern community from Bruce Lewis, chief of police and associate vice president in the Department of Safety and Security

At about 2 a.m. on the morning of Saturday, March 16, the Northwestern Police Department responded to a report of a sexual assault in the 2000 block of Sheridan Road near the Jacobs Center on the Evanston campus. The suspect was immediately identified and is currently in police custody. Criminal sexual assault charges against the suspect were authorized by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office today, March 19.

The University’s Office of Equity and NPD have been providing support to those impacted.

We realize the report of a sexual assault on our campus is difficult for many people in our community. We encourage any students, faculty or staff who need support to reach out to the Office of Equity. Students also may seek assistance from the Center for Awareness, Response & Prevention (CARE), Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and Religious and Spiritual Life. Additional information on resources and options can be found on the Office of Equity website.
