EVANSTON, Ill. --- Undergraduate tuition at Northwestern University will increase 3.8 percent to $48,624 for the 2015-2016 academic year from the current year’s $46,836, University officials announced today.
Standard room and board rates will increase 3.8 percent to $14,936 from $14,389 for an undergraduate student living in a double room with a full meal plan option. Approximately 4,000 of Northwestern’s 8,400 undergraduate students live in University residence halls.
The undergraduate student athletic fee will increase to $49 next year from $47 this year. The student activity fee will increase to $174 from $168. The student health fee remains at $200.
Total undergraduate tuition, fees, room and board at Northwestern University will increase 3.8 percent to $63,983 in 2015-2016 from the current year’s $61,640.
Since 2005-2006, financial aid for undergraduate students at Northwestern has more than doubled from $79 million and continues to increase at a more rapid rate than tuition. The University will provide upwards of $160 million in scholarships and grants to undergraduates in 2015-2016, an increase of 6 percent from the current year. The additional financial aid will allow Northwestern to increase the number of students who receive Pell Grants and provide aid for students from middle-income families. Approximately half of Northwestern’s undergraduate students receive financial aid from the University.
Northwestern will continue its policy of “need-blind” admission for U.S. citizens and permanent residents, in which a student’s ability to pay is not considered during the admission process.
In addition to fully meeting the growing financial aid needs of students, the additional tuition revenue will enhance investments in the Office of Career Advancement, undergraduate summer internships, research, leadership and civic engagement programs, academic mentoring and advising. The revenue also funds recruitment and retention of exceptional faculty and staff and the physical and technological infrastructure needed to sustain excellence in teaching and research, and improve the experiences of students. Investments are being made in academic buildings, student housing, and athletic and recreational facilities that will support the students and community of Northwestern University well into the future.
Graduate school tuition also will increase by 3.8 percent to $48,624 next year. Tuition and fees for the Feinberg School of Medicine, the Kellogg School of Management and the School of Law are currently being reviewed.
