Redevelopment of Norris University Center’s East Lawn to begin this summer

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Undergraduate tuition at Northwestern University will increase 3.8 percent to $46,836 for the 2014-2015 academic year from the current year’s $45,120, University officials announced today.
The undergraduate student athletic fee will increase to $47 next year from $45 this year. The student activity fee will increase to $168 from $162. The student health fee remains at $200.
Standard room and board rates will increase 3.8 percent to $14,389 from $13,862 for an undergraduate student living in a double room with a full meal plan option. Approximately 4,000 of Northwestern’s 8,400 undergraduate students live in University residence halls.
Total undergraduate tuition, fees, room and board at Northwestern University will increase 3.8 percent to $61,640 in 2014-2015 from the current year’s $59,389.
Since 2005-2006, financial aid for undergraduate students at Northwestern has increased by 91 percent from $79 million and continues to increase at a more rapid rate than tuition. The University will provide upwards of $151 million in scholarships and grants to undergraduates in 2014-2015, an increase of 5.8 percent over the current year. Approximately half of Northwestern’s undergraduate students receive financial aid from the University. Northwestern will continue its policy of “need-blind” admission for U.S. citizens and permanent residents, in which a student’s ability to pay is not considered during the admission process.
In addition to fully meeting the growing financial aid needs of students, the additional tuition revenue will enhance investments in academic mentoring and advising, undergraduate research, leadership and civic engagement programs, the recruitment and retention of exceptional faculty and staff, and the physical and technological infrastructure needed to sustain excellence in research, teaching and experiences of students. Investments are being made in academic buildings, student housing, and athletic and recreational facilities that will support the students and community of Northwestern University well into the future.
Graduate school tuition also will increase by 3.8 percent to $46,836 next year. Tuition and fees for the Feinberg School of Medicine will increase 4 percent to $55,884 from $53,735. Tuition increases for the Kellogg School of Management and the School of Law are currently being reviewed.
