Northwestern Launches Certificates of Advanced Graduate Study

CHICAGO, Ill. --- Northwestern University School of Continuing Studies (SCS) has launched a one-of-a-kind post-graduate educational program, Certificates of Advanced Graduate Study. These certificates are designed to give professionals with one or more advanced degrees the opportunity to gain new skills, build expertise in new areas, stay current with technology and industry advances, and earn a new credential by completing a targeted four-course sequence.

To earn a certificate, students complete challenging courses drawn from existing Northwestern SCS graduate programs. Certificates are open only to those who already hold a graduate degree and are taught at the master’s level by members of Northwestern’s distinguished faculty and seasoned industry experts.

“Our new certificates are for students who have earned an advanced degree and want to continue deepening their knowledge and expertise,” says Mary Morley Cohen, assistant dean of graduate programs at Northwestern’s School of Continuing Studies. “It’s an exceptional opportunity for targeted study in a field, for exploring new trends or for refreshing skills in preparation for a career change or further education at the doctoral level.”

More than 20 certificates are available in the areas of information systems, public policy and administration, medical informatics, regulatory compliance, liberal studies and literature. A certificate in advanced data science is also offered for those with a master’s degree in that area. Courses are offered in the evening on campus as well as online, though delivery method varies by program.
