Showcasing Senior Art Talent

EVANSTON, Ill. --- “Glossolalia” -- a word that means speaking in an unknown language -- is the intriguing title of a group exhibition of works by soon-to-graduate Northwestern University senior art majors in the department of art theory and practice. Like speaking in tongues, the works are meant to engage viewers.

The show represents the students’ varied approaches to contemporary art-making and marks the culmination of their undergraduate studies.

The Senior Art Show opens May 10 and runs through June 13 at the University’s Dittmar Memorial Gallery. The gallery is located on the first floor of Norris University Center, 1999 Campus Drive, Evanston campus. A 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 10 opening reception and the exhibition are free and open to the public. Additional programming will be announced at a later date.

While the artists vary in their choice of materials and methods, their common objective is to create their own absorbing language that is in turn perceived, read, considered, deciphered and digested by their audience. Though the artists differ in their approaches, their work collectively presents a play on and questioning of interpretation. 

Featuring artwork by Northwestern seniors Madeline Amos, Kyle Frost, Audrey Haque, Jason Pan, Andrew Paulson, Harrison Shih, Laura Shultz, Judy Suh, Alaya Turnbough, Wendy You and Crystal Zhang, the show explores different ways of constructing meaning in contemporary art.
