EVANSTON, Ill. --- “The Verona Project,” award-winning writer and director Amanda Dehnert’s new indie-folk-rock musical, running through Nov. 4 at the Josephine Louis Theatre, is a modern fable inspired by Shakespeare’s comedy “The Two Gentlemen of Verona.”
The 2012-13 Mainstage season opener is presented by the American Music Theatre Project (AMTP) in association with the Theatre and Interpretation Center (TIC) at Northwestern University.
“You Can’t Take It With You,” George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart’s quirky comedy, directed by William Brown, will be staged from Nov. 9 to 18, at the Ethel M. Barber Theater. TIC also will present a one-night-only screening of the 1938 film, “You Can’t Take It With You,” on Nov. 12.
The 2012-13 Imagine U Family Series opens Nov. 9 to 18 at the Mussetter-Struble Theater with Allison Gregory’s “Junie B. in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells.” Directed by Henry Godinez, the show is based on the Junie B. Jones books by Barbara Park and is recommended for children aged 5 to 10 and their families.
TIC will host Tuesday night National Theatre Live (NTLive) broadcasts of two hit London productions in November. “The Last of the Haussmans,” Stephen Beresford’s funny and touching new play about a family that is losing its grip, will be broadcast Nov. 13 at the Louis Theater. Shakespeare’s “Timon of Athens,” featuring Simon Russell Beale in the title role, will be broadcast Nov. 27 at the Barber Theater.
The Northwestern University New Movement Project’s annual Fall Dance Concert, Nov. 9 to 17 at the Marjorie Ward Marshall Dance Center, will showcase the dance works of nine student choreographers.
All events are open to the public and take place on Northwestern’s Evanston campus, at either the Ethel M. Barber Theater, 30 Arts Circle Drive; the Josephine Louis Theater, 20 Arts Circle Drive; or the Marjorie Ward Marshall Dance Center, 10 Arts Circle Drive, as noted.

TIC Mainstage subscribers can choose between two different plans. The seven-play subscription for $75 to $148 represents a 20 percent savings off single ticket prices. The five-play Flex-Pass for $45 to $118 represents a 10 percent savings off single ticket prices. A four-play subscription to National Theatre Live is $64 and a three-play subscription is $48. Subscriptions to Imagine U Family Series productions range from $18 to $24.

Anarchic, feisty but growing old, high society drop-out Judy Haussman remains in spirit with the Ashrams of the 1960s while holding court in her dilapidated Art Deco house on England’s Devon coast. After an operation, her wayward offspring, a sharp-eyed granddaughter, the local doctor and a troubled teenager who makes use of the family’s crumbling swimming pool, join her. Freeloaders and sycophants surround Timon of Athens, a wealthy friend to the rich and powerful, patron of the arts and ostentatious host. Vastly outspending his resources, he calls upon his associates for help, who in turn hang him out to dry. After a final, vengeful banquet, Timon withdraws to a literal and emotional wasteland, pouring curses on a morally bankrupt Athens.
