Career

Carrillo has published two books:

  • "The Night is Young: Sexuality in Mexico in the Time of AIDS" (University of Chicago Press, 2002). Recipient of the Ruth Benedict Award from the American Anthropological Association.
  • "Pathways of Desire: The Sexual Migration of Mexican Gay Men" (University of Chicago Press, 2017). Recipient of the Distinguished Book Award, American Sociological Association (ASA), 2020. Recipient of the Thomas and Znaniecki Best Book Award, ASA Section on International Migration, 2019. Recipient of the ASA Section on the Sociology of Sex and Gender’s Distinguished Book Award, 2018. Recipient of the Distinguished Contributions to Scholarship Book Award, ASA Section on Latina/o Sociology, 2018.

Carrillo also has been a Guggenheim Fellow, 2020-2021; an American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) Fellow, 2020-2021; and a Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University, 2012-2013.
