Work/Research
Wolniak's research and applied work examine how college experiences and institutional conditions influence student learning, development and post-college outcomes, as well as how data-driven tools can advance equity and social impact. He has co-authored more than 50 peer-reviewed articles and the book "How College Affects Students: 21st Century Evidence That Higher Education Works (2016)."
Career
Wolniak’s work sits at the intersection of research, policy and practice in higher education. He is Head of Education Initiatives at DataKind, a global nonprofit that develops and scales data-driven tools to help broad-access colleges and universities improve student outcomes. He is also a Faculty Affiliate in Northwestern University’s School of Education and Social Policy, where he teaches in the Higher Education Administration and Policy program and collaborates with faculty across the university. Previously, he was a tenured professor at the University of Georgia, founding director of the Center for Research on Higher Education Outcomes and a faculty member at New York University. He has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, books and monographs. Wolniak brings a rare combination of scholarly expertise and applied leadership, and is a leading voice on the challenges and opportunities facing colleges and universities in today’s social, economic and political environment.
