The Wirtz Center for the Performing Arts at Northwestern is set to heat up winter with a dynamic lineup of plays, a Chicago musical premiere, and dance performances.
Museum
The season kicks off on Feb. 7 with Tina Howe’s acclaimed comic play “Museum,” a sharp and absurdist exploration of art and humanity. Directed by Kathryn Walsh, the play unfolds in a contemporary art museum, where quirky characters navigate fragmented, often humorous scenes reflecting modern culture’s contradictions. MFA acting students join the mainstage production for the first time, with ASL-interpreted performances on Feb. 9 and 13. “The characters respond to art with everything from rage to reverence,” Walsh said.
February House
On Feb. 21, the Chicago premiere of “February House” takes center stage. This vibrant musical by Gabriel Kahane captures the bohemian life of a Brooklyn boarding house during World War II. Directed by MFA candidate Seth Roseman, it explores the emotional vulnerability of artists who navigate love, loss, and found family. “They come to understand the potential price of love is loss,” Roseman noted.
DanceWorks
Closing the season on March 14, DanceWorks 2025: signal::transfer features three evocative new works by guest choreographers Joe Bowie, Sankofa Dazafro, and Al Evangelista, offering a transcendent exploration of time and space.
