We may still be in the middle of Chicago winter, but temperatures have crept back above zero, and we’ve got annual traditions, advice and plenty of other highlights to justify venturing out in the cold.
The doctor will ‘yes, and’ you now
In 2002, Feinberg School of Medicine’s Professor Katie Watson created what is believed to be the nation’s first medical improv class. Watson has since trained over 300 educators in this curriculum. In this Montgomery Lecture, Watson will discuss what she’s learned about medical communication, teaching the medical humanities and more.
Watson will speak at noon on Thursday, Jan. 23, in the Searle Room, Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center, 303 E. Superior St., Chicago. Those interested can also register to attend via Zoom.
Dance into the weekend
Join the dance program for a workshop and dialogue with Colombian choreographer and dancer Rafael Palacios. The artistic director of the Sankofa Danzafro company, Palacios is internationally recognized for his innovative work integrating Afro-traditional, contemporary and urban dance forms.

Navigating Northwestern
During this panel event, Northwestern students will share their experiences navigating the balance between stress and academic expectations. Staff members from Counseling and Psychological Services will also provide resources and answer questions.

A lovely night
The 82nd annual Dolphin Show presents “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella,” a version of the classic fairytale focusing on themes of imagination and empowerment. For those with children, a meet-and-greet with costumed characters will follow Sunday’s matinee performance.

Fireside chat
During this year’s annual fireside chat, Vice President for Human Resources and Chief Human Resources Officer Lorraine Goffe will lead a conversation with President Michael Schill that addresses University news, Northwestern’s priorities and other topics on the minds of staff, followed by a reception.
