The 2021 action comedy “Free Guy” plays July 20. It is the story of a bank teller played by Ryan Reynolds who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game, and decides to become the hero of his own story.

Summer Cinema, Northwestern’s family-friendly summer movie series, is back for another year with three films on the schedule this summer.

The first two screen at dusk — around 8:30 p.m. — on the East Lawn of the Norris University Center, and the last will screen indoors at 7:30 p.m. in the McCormick Auditorium at Norris.

What’s playing?

  • July 13: The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Get free glowsticks.
  • July 20: Free Guy. Enjoy free ice cream.
  • July 27: Pokémon: Jirachi, Wish Maker. A balloon artist will be on hand.
