Graduation weekend at Northwestern begins June 9, and the Class of 2023 is making final preparations for the special occasion. For grads-to-be, their families and friends, as well as the entire Northwestern community, there is a lot going on in the lead-up.
With that in mind, Northwestern Now has pulled together key bits of information from schools, units and the official graduation website to help answer questions or at least point you in the right direction.
When is the Commencement ceremony?
The 165th annual Commencement ceremony takes place at 9 a.m., Monday, June 12, at Ryan Field. Check the graduation website in the case of severe weather that may force a delay or a change of date or location.
Who will address the Class of 2023?
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker will deliver this year’s address to graduates at Ryan Field. Pritzker, along with Morton Schapiro, Northwestern’s 16th president, and three other distinguished individuals will receive honorary degrees.
What about school convocations?
Individual graduates will be recognized by their schools during Convocation ceremonies, which will be held in person with strict capacity limits as well as livestreams for those viewing remotely.
To celebrate students’ fulfillment of their degrees, each school will host a guest speaker whose journey will offer inspiration to the class.
What is the best way to get around?
Once on campus, some parking will be available for various ceremonies and events. Parking restrictions and campus shuttle information is available on the graduation website.
What should families know?
When families and friends arrive on campus, there are a few items to remember. Northwestern is committed to providing reasonable accommodations for those with accessibility needs at all events and programs. In addition, to order convocation photographs, guests are encouraged to create an account with Dynamic Photo Systems for access to view proofs.
