A mayor, a president and a batch of chocolate chip cookies

Annual MashUp community event celebrates the relationship between Northwestern and Evanston

Evanston residents, business owners and community leaders gathered Nov. 2 for the annual gathering known as MashUp to celebrate all that makes the city vibrant.

Hosted by Northwestern University, the City of Evanston and the Evanston Chamber of Commerce, the event is a chance each fall for hundreds of entrepreneurs, executives and artists, as well as University and City leaders, to network, make new friends and enjoy local food and drinks.

Northwestern President Michael Schill and Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss served as co-captains of MashUp 2022.

Former mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl was honored with the annual Catalyst Award for improving relations between Evanston and Northwestern at a time when she and former president Morton Shapiro both were new on the job. As the story goes, she brought chocolate chip cookies and Schapiro stopped by her office to return the Tupperware. And the rest, as they say, is history.
