Lunch and movies on the lake this summer

Free events run July 13 to 28 on the lawn of Northwestern’s Norris University Center

Summer Reggae (featuring members of Funkadesi) kicks off Lunch on the Lake at Norris July 13. The Chicago-based band delivers a virtuoso high-energy musical experience of reggae, funk and Afro-Caribbean grooves.

Break for lunch alfresco or sit under the stars for a free movie night on the lakefront this summer.

Northwestern announces the schedule for the 2022 Lunch on the Lake and Summer Cinema series. Sponsored by the Office of Summer Session and Norris University Center, all events are free and open to the public.

Lunch on the Lake

Picnic while you listen or groove to live music at Lunch on the Lake, held at noon on July 13, 20 and 27 on the East Lawn of the Norris Center, 1999 Campus Drive. 

Box lunches are available on site or bring your own lunch. The cost for on-site, lunches range from $10-13. Be sure to check out the Norris Center website for the weekly Lunch on the Lake menu. For a free blanket, pre-register online

The lineup includes Summer Reggae featuring members of Funkadesi (July 13); DJ Jamfest featuring Corey Bless (July 20); and B.A.D. Trio (July 27).

In the event of rain, Lunch on the Lake will be moved indoors to the ground floor of the Norris Center.

Summer Cinema

Enjoy a movie and popcorn and other treats at Summer Cinema on July 14, 21 and 28 on the East Lawn of the Norris Center.

Beginning at 7:30 p.m., free popcorn and activities will be offered while supplies last. The movie will be screened at dusk (8:30 p.m.).

Movie goers are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs, blankets, food and beverage and environmentally friendly insect repellent. For a free blanket, pre-register online.

  • July 14: “Luca” (free water sprayers and Italian ice)
  • July 21: “Enchanted” (free balloonist and glow sticks)
  • July 28: “Space Jam” (free mini basketball and Pop-a-Shot game)

In event of rain, the movie will be screened indoors at the Norris University Center’s McCormick Auditorium on the first floor and will begin at 8 p.m. sharp.
