Redevelopment of Norris University Center’s East Lawn to begin this summer

This December, Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music will present three holiday concerts on the Evanston campus. Performing ensembles include the Northwestern University Jazz Orchestra, Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra, Alice Millar Chapel Choir, Philharmonia and Millar Brass Ensemble.

Northwestern University Jazz Orchestra: Bring in the Holiday Swingin’!

The Northwestern University Jazz Orchestra, led by Joe Clark, rings in the holiday season with swinging arrangements of festive classics like “Deck the Halls,” “Chestnuts Roasting” and “Holly, Jolly Christmas.” Tickets are $6 for the general public and $4 for students with a valid ID.

Under the direction of Robert G. Hasty, the Northwestern University Chamber Orchestra performs Giuseppe Torelli’s Concerto Grosso for Two Violins in G Minor (“Christmas Concerto”), W. A. Mozart’s Symphony No. 36 in C Major (“Linz”), Stokowski’s orchestration of J. S. Bach’s “Sheep may safely graze” from Cantata No. 208 and Jean Sibelius’s Symphony No. 3 in C Major. Tickets are $6 for the general public and $4 for students with a valid ID.
A Festival of Lessons and Carols

The first Festival of Lessons and Carols was held in King’s College Chapel in Cambridge on Christmas Eve in 1918. Since that time, numerous churches, cathedrals and choirs around the world -- including Alice Millar Chapel -- have adopted the tradition, combining readings and music to portray the story of the Christmas miracle. Stephen Alltop conducts a program featuring carol settings from medieval to modern for brass, strings, organ and choir. This year’s program includes music of Giovanni Gabrieli, Matthew Naughtin, Heinrich Schütz and Owain Park. Admission is free, and a freewill offering will be accepted.

Ticket office hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and noon to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
