Northwestern garages open during Evanston snow parking ban

Following is a message to the Northwestern community:

The City of Evanston has declared a Snow Route Parking Ban for tonight, Friday, February 9, between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., and a Snow Emergency for side streets on Saturday, February 10, and Sunday, February 11, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Evanston community members are asked to park according to the posted street signs to allow the City to effectively clear the snow.

During the snow emergency, the City of Evanston will open its three parking garages (Church Street, 1800 Maple, and Sherman Plaza) to the public, and all parking inside the garages will be free.

In partnership with the City of Evanston, Northwestern University will open its North and South Parking Garages during the snow emergency to provide additional free parking for the Evanston community. The North and South Parking Garages will be open to the public from Friday, February 9, at 6 p.m., through Monday, February 12, at 6 a.m.

During that time, anyone can park inside our garages for free, and all parking access gate arms will be raised throughout the snow emergency. We do ask those who choose to use the garages to follow all designated parking signage within the facilities.

All vehicles without a Northwestern permit should vacate the North and South Parking Garages before 6 a.m. on Monday, February 12, to ensure the garages are available for normal daily use.

Parking controls (gates, card readers, and pay stations) in the North and South Parking Garages will go back online on Monday, February 12, at 6 a.m. Current permit holders will then access the garages by swiping their Wildcard at the entrance gates. As a reminder, daily parking in the North and South Parking Garages for those without a current permit is available for $8. Daily parking can be paid for at pay stations located in each elevator lobby.

1. North Garage, 2311 North Campus Drive: from Sheridan Road and Lincoln Street, turn east towards Lake Michigan
2. South Garage, 1841 Sheridan Road: from Sheridan Road, turn onto South Campus Drive from the point where north-southbound Sheridan Road turns west, on the south end of campus

City of Evanston parking garages

1. Church Street: enter from Church Street or Clark Street, east of Chicago Avenue
2. 1800 Maple: enter from Maple Avenue at Clark Street or University Place
3. Sherman Plaza: enter from Davis Street or Benson Avenue
