Redevelopment of Norris University Center’s East Lawn to begin this summer

EVANSTON - The Art Institute of Chicago will open its doors to the Northwestern community Thursday, Nov. 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. for the fall “Northwestern Night at the Art Institute.”
Students, faculty and staff with valid WILDcard IDs are invited to bring guests to the free event at 111 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago. Check-in is at the Art Institute’s Modern Wing entrance on Monroe Street. Pre-registration is not required.
The event includes guided tours, special discounts at museum shops and cafes and the opportunity to explore exhibitions throughout the museum that evening.
Student Organizations & Activities (SOA) will sponsor free transportation for students to and from the event. Students can sign up to reserve complimentary CTA passes to and from the event by completing the form at this link: https://northwestern.campuslabs.com/engage/submitter/form/start/144980.
Museum staff will lead three tours departing from Griffin Court at the following times:
5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Exhibition Tour of “Tarsila do Amaral: Inventing Modern Art in Brazil.” I
6:00 - 7 p.m. Highlights of the Art Institute
6:30 - 7:30 p.m. American Revolution Art Tour (inspired by the One Book One Northwestern theme).
In addition, student docents from the Block Museum of Art will be stationed in the Contemporary Art galleries to engage visitors in conversations regarding the artwork.

Northwestern students unable to attend the event can visit the Art Institute for free year- round when they show a valid Wildcard at the ticket counter. More information about all of SOA’s museum partnerships can be found online.
The Art Institute’s permanent collection includes world-famous pieces by Claude Monet, Marc Chagall, Georgia O’Keefe, Piet Mondrian, Rene Magritte and Vincent van Gogh, as well as galleries of decorative arts, photography, Ancient/Byzantine art, African art, textiles, Asian art and miniatures.
