Redevelopment of Norris University Center’s East Lawn to begin this summer

The award-winning author will assess Trump’s policy towards Iran amidst larger tensions in the Middle East. Parsi is best known for his 2007 book, "Treacherous Alliance: The Secret Dealings of Israel, Iran and the United States," which won the Council on Foreign Relations’ Arthur Ross Book Award and the Grawemeyer Award for Ideas Improving World Order.
His latest book, "Losing an Enemy: Obama, Iran and the Triumph of Diplomacy," examines the backstory of the Obama’s administration’s negotiations with Iran. Parsi is president of the National Iranian American Council and teaches at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.
These events are part of the MENA Monday Night series, a partnership between Northwestern's Middle East and North African Studies Program and the Evanston Public Library aimed at expanding the public’s understanding of the MENA region and fostering a forum for questions and dialogue.

Marc Lynch reviews the Middle East in 2017
Marc Lynch, professor of political science and international affairs at George Washington University and renowned Middle East analyst, will be speaking on January 8, 2018 at 6 p.m. at the Evanston Public Library as part of the same series.
Lynch is the director of the Project on Middle East Political Science (POMEPS) and the author of "The New Arab Wars: Anarchy and Uprising in the Middle East." He is a contributing editor at the Washington Post blog The Monkey Cage. He edits the Columbia University Press series Columbia Studies on Middle East Politics and is a nonresident senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. In 2016, he was named an Andrew Carnegie Fellow.
“Trita Parsi and Marc Lynch are two figures who are particularly talented at bringing their expertise to a broader audience,” said Brian T. Edwards, Crown Professor in Middle East Studies and director of the MENA Program at Northwestern University. “Their scholarship as well as their public engagement show how academic knowledge plays a vital role in the larger conversation about the Middle East.”
