Medical Students Honor Body Donors in May 26 Ceremony

Northwestern medical students show appreciation with music, essays and flowers

CHICAGO --- First-year medical students from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine will express their gratitude to the people who donated their bodies for the students’ anatomy studies at a special ceremony 3 p.m. Thursday, May 26, in the Thorne Auditorium, 375 E. Chicago Ave., on the Northwestern University Chicago campus.

Families of the donors also will attend the ceremony, which includes essay and poetry readings from medical students, musical performances and a flower ceremony and a slide show documenting students’ experiences in the anatomy lab.

“We want to honor those people who choose to donate their bodies in order to advance the practice of medicine,” said Owaiz Ansari, a first-year Feinberg student who organized the program. “Understanding human anatomy is incredibly important for any physician, and these are the people whose generosity makes it possible.”
