EVANSTON, Ill. --- Coyote Logistics founder and CEO Jeff Silver will deliver the 35th Annual William A. Patterson Transportation Lecture Wednesday, April 20, at Northwestern University.
The lecture, “No Excuses. Technology and Culture Meet a New Era of Expectation,” will focus on how managing expectations, following through and creating the right culture are critical to building a successful business.
The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the OLC Forum, Donald P. Jacobs Center, 2001 Sheridan Road, on Northwestern’s Evanston campus. Sponsored by the University’s Transportation Center, the event is free and open to the public.
Silver always knew there was a need for a stronger service commitment in the shipping industry, he says. Armed with industry experience and advanced education, Silver founded Chicago-based Coyote in 2006 with his wife, Marianne Silver, who is chief human resources officer of the company.
Coyote is one of the most innovative, fast-growing third-party logistics service providers in North America. It provides truckload, less-than-truckload and intermodal brokerage services for shippers and carriers and transportation management services to more than 14,000 shippers, from Fortune 100 companies to small businesses. Under Silver’s leadership, Coyote became a UPS subsidiary in 2015.
Prior to founding Coyote, Silver worked at American Backhaulers (ABH), a company he joined in 1984 after graduating from the University of Michigan. Using a Rolodex and pen and paper, he matched trucks with available loads by hand, a system that prompted him to write the truck-matching software that eventually grew ABH to be one of the largest freight brokerages in North America at the time.
In 2015, Crain’s Chicago Business named Silver to its Who’s Who in Chicago Business for the fourth consecutive year. Silver also was named in 2015 to the Supply & Demand Chain Executive “Pros to Know” Awards for the third consecutive year. He serves on the board of the Northwestern University Transportation Center (NUTC) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology School of Engineering Dean’s Advisory Council, and he is a member of the Economic Club of Chicago.
The Patterson Transportation Lecture is an annual event supported by the Patterson Transportation Endowment, established at Northwestern in 1979 and honoring the late William A. Patterson, founder and CEO of United Airlines.
