Northwestern Announces Named Professorships

EVANSTON, Ill. --- The Northwestern University Board of Trustees has nominated 29 faculty members to professorships.

The faculty members and their appointments are:

Sarki Abba Abdulkadir, M.D., professor of urology in the Feinberg School of Medicine, has been named the John T. Grayhack, M.D., Chair in Urological Research.

Jason Brickner, associate professor of molecular biosciences in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Soretta and Henry Shapiro Research Professor in Molecular Biology.

James Carr, M.D., professor of radiology in the Feinberg School of Medicine, has been named the Knight Family Professor of Cardiac Imaging.

Earl Cheng, M.D., professor of urology in the Feinberg School of Medicine, has been named the Founders’ Board Chair in Urology. 

Deborah Clements, M.D., professor of family and community medicine in the Feinberg School of Medicine, has been named the Nancy and Warren Furey Professor in Community Medicine.

David Corr, associate professor of clinical, civil and environmental engineering in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, has been named the Charles Deering McCormick University Distinguished Clinical Professor.

Jack Doppelt, professor of journalism in the Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications, has been named the Hamad bin Al-Thani Professor in Journalism.

Gregory Dumanian, M.D., professor of surgery in the Feinberg School of Medicine, has been named the Orion H. and Lucille W. Stuteville Professor in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Jesus Escobar, associate professor of art history in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Harold H. and Virginia Anderson Professor.

Mark Eskandari, M.D., professor of surgery in the Feinberg School of Medicine, has been named the James S. T. Yao Professor of Education in Vascular Surgery.

Eli Finkel, professor of psychology in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Martin J. and Patricia Koldyke Outstanding Teaching Professor.

Rebecca Gilman, professor of radio, television and film has been named the Charles Deering McCormick Professor in Teaching Excellence. 

Sossina Haile, professor of materials science and chemical engineering at the California Institute of Technology, has been named the Walter P. Murphy Professor. Haile is appointed for a five-year term at Northwestern beginning Jan. 1, 2015.

Aaron Hamvas, M.D., professor of pediatrics in the Feinberg School of Medicine, has been named the Raymond and Hazel Speck Berry Professor in Neonatology.

Jeanne Herrick, senior lecturer in the writing program in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named to the Charles Deering McCormick University Distinguished Lectureship.

Greg Holderfield, a clinical associate professor of mechanical engineering in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, has been named the Pentair -- D. Eugene and Bonnie L. Nugent Teaching Professor.

Robert Kern, M.D., professor of otolaryngology in the Feinberg School of Medicine, has been named the George A. Sisson, M.D., Professor of Otolaryngology.

Madhav Mani has been named the June and Donald Brewer Junior Professor. Mani is appointed for a one-year term as an assistant professor at Northwestern beginning Jan. 1, 2015.

Michael Markl, associate professor of radiology in the Feinberg School of Medicine, has been named the Lester B. and Frances T. Knight Professor of Cardiac Imaging. 

Elizabeth McNally, M.D., professor of medicine in the Feinberg School of Medicine, has been named the Elizabeth J. Ward Professor of Genetic Medicine.

Bharat Mittal, professor of radiation technology in the Feinberg School of Medicine, has been named the William N. Brand, M.D., Professor of Radiation Oncology.

Adilson Motter, professor of physics and astronomy in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Charles and Emma Morrison Professor.

Todd Murphey, associate professor of mechanical engineering in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, has been named the Charles Deering McCormick Professor in Teaching Excellence.

Aviv Nevo, professor of economics in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Breen Family Term Professor.

Jorge Nocedal, professor of engineering in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, has been named the David A. and Karen Richards Sachs Professor.

Neelesh Patankar, professor of mechanical engineering in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, has been named the Charles Deering Professor in Teaching Excellence. 

Susan Phillips, associate professor of English in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Alumnae of Northwestern Teaching Professor.

Krista Thompson, associate professor of art history in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Weinberg College Board of Visitors Research and Teaching Professor.
