EVANSTON, Ill. --- Northwestern University will celebrate the summer music season with a choral concert featuring 20th-century German composer Carl Orff’s most well-known cantata, and several programs spotlighting Northwestern music faculty and their violin and oboe students.
Presented by the University’s Bienen School of Music, all four summer music events are free and open to the public.
The Summer Violin Institute, June 23 through July 4, is a program that focuses on technical ability, advanced musical skills, thorough knowledge of repertoire and healthy practice habits. Students participate in master classes, technique classes and performances. This year’s teachers include Frank Almond, Shmuel Ashkenasi, Cyrus Forough, Miriam Fried, Paul Kantor, Blair Milton, Gerardo Ribeiro, and Joel Smirnoff.
The Summer Oboe Workshop, July 11 through 13, is an intensive three-day program designed to create a more comprehensive knowledge of the most important aspects of oboe playing and reed making. Students will participate in master classes and some private instruction. The workshop will culminate in a faculty concert. Oboe workshop faculty include Robert Morgan, Michael Henoch and Scott Hostetler, all members of the Northwestern University Bienen School of Music oboe faculty.
Presented by the Henry and Leigh Bienen School of Music, all summer events listed below will take place on the University’s Evanston campus at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, 50 Arts Circle Drive; Regenstein Recital Hall, 60 Arts Circle Drive; or Lutkin Hall, 700 University Place; as noted.
