Buy Ethically At Fair Trade Marketplace On Evanston Campus

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Shop for ethically traded handicrafts, chocolate, clothing, accessories and artisanal products Saturday, May 10, when Northwestern University’s Buffett Center for International and Comparative Studies and its One Book One Northwestern initiative celebrate World Fair Trade Day with a fair trade marketplace on the Evanston campus.

The fair trade marketplace will feature products from local, fair trade businesses and social enterprises, including Ten Thousand Villages, ishi vest, Greenola Style and the American Friends Service Committee. Free and open to the public, it will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m on the South Lawn of Norris University Center, 1999 Campus Drive. Weekend parking is free in all campus lots.

“World Fair Trade Day aims to raise awareness of the need for economic action that promotes a more just global economy,” says Patrick Eccles, assistant director of Northwestern's Buffett Center. "Fair trade aims to support small farmers, artisans and workers more directly so that they can build better lives and invest in their communities.”
