EVANSTON, Ill. --- Interested in trying your hand at creative writing? For the ninth year, graduate students in Northwestern University’s MA/MFA in Creative Writing Program are offering free writing classes on the University’s Evanston campus. Classes take place Saturday, Dec. 7, and Sunday, Dec. 8.
The Apprentices Program gives students who are learning to teach creative writing real-life teaching experience and offers members of the public a chance to experiment with prose, poetry and other forms of writing. Geared to all levels of writing experience, the 50-minute classes will take place at 405 Church Street, Evanston.
Among the 19 class offerings are “Writing Like a Cinematographer,” “Experiments in Writing Poetry,” “Travel Writing without Planes, Trains or Automobiles,” “Writing Magical Realism,” “Creating Distinct and Original Characters” and “Using Humor in Fiction.” Participants can sign up for a maximum of seven classes.

Although its classes are free, The Apprentices gladly accepts donations for Young Chicago Authors, a program of free writing workshops and in-school residencies for Chicago and Chicago area high school students.
