Homecoming gets national attention with ESPN College GameDay, Mike & Mike

EVANSTON, Ill. --- The broadcast of ESPN’s popular “College GameDay” from Northwestern University’s Evanston campus this Saturday, Oct. 5, adds great momentum both to the University’s Homecoming festivities and to the success of the University’s athletics program.

“GameDay,” one of the most popular television shows in all of sports, will make its first appearance on Northwestern’s campus since 1995 to preview the Wildcats’ matchup Saturday night against Ohio State.

Saturday’s “College GameDay: Northwestern!” ESPN broadcast will be aired live from 8 to 11 a.m. Oct. 5 from the area just south of Northwestern’s Lakeside Field. The 7 p.m. Saturday Oct. 5 prime-time sold-out game between the undefeated and 16th-ranked Northwestern Wildcats and the Ohio State Buckeyes will be televised nationwide from Ryan Field by ABC-TV. The broadcast crew for the Saturday night game will continue the rivalry in the press box. Brent Musburger, the play-by-play announcer, is a 1961 graduate of Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications, and Kirk Herbstreit, the color analyst, is an Ohio State alumnus.

The game will cap off Northwestern’s Homecoming festivities. Homecoming 2013 weekend offers a variety of perks for sports fans, including live broadcasts of several shows by ESPN's national networks and Chicago-based ESPN Radio 1000.

Northwestern University alumnus Mike Greenberg, co-host of “Mike & Mike,” ESPN Radio’s popular daily sports talk show, will re-visit the Evanston campus, Friday, Oct. 4, to serve as grand marshal of the 2013 Homecoming Parade. He also will be an honored guest during events planned for the Oct. 4-5 weekend celebration.

• Greenberg and his “Mike & Mike” co-host Mike Golic will broadcast their early morning show live from Northwestern’s Evanston campus from 5 to 9 a.m. (Central Time) Friday, Oct. 4, in advance of the Saturday night, Oct. 5, Homecoming game between Northwestern and Ohio State, as part of the third annual ESPN Audio Fall Football Tour. Their drive-time show will be broadcast from Northwestern’s Deering Meadow -- the two acres of open green space between Deering Library, (1935 Sheridan Road) and Sheridan Road.

A native New Yorker, Greenberg is a 1989 Medill graduate. A familiar voice and face to local and national sports fans, Greenberg was named co-host of ESPN Radio’s “Mike & Mike” show in December 1999.

• From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, Chicago-based ESPN 1000 will broadcast two local radio shows -- “Carmen and Jurko,” a sports talk roundtable co-hosted by 10-year National Football League (NFL) veteran John ‘Jurko” Jurkovic and Carmen DeFalco -- And “Waddle and Silvy,” co-hosted by former Chicago Bear Tom Waddle and Marc Silverman,

The public is encouraged to attend all three on-campus broadcasts.

Other Homecoming 2013 events open to the public:
