Redevelopment of Norris University Center’s East Lawn to begin this summer

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Celebrate everything Evanston at a Sept. 17 gathering on the beach.
It’s not a business conference or a networking event. It's the fourth annual MashUp hosted by Northwestern University in coordination with the city of Evanston, the Evanston Chamber of Commerce and other business partners.
All are invited from 5:30 to 9 p.m. to mingle with fellow entrepreneurs, executives, artists, professionals, city leaders and CEOs. Join the celebration and enjoy a late summer evening under a tent on the beach with great local food, music and friends.
"MashUp has quickly become an Evanston tradition because people enjoy reestablishing connections and making new friends," said Lucile Krasnow, special assistant for community relations. "The event is a great opportunity to celebrate the spirit of businesses and economic development in our community. And it gives us all the chance to reflect on how fortunate we are to work in a city showing great growth and promise.”
Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl and Northwestern President Morton Schapiro will serve as co-captains for the fourth year in a row. Each year they present the Catalyst Award to a person or organization that embodies the spirit of partnership and collaboration.
Last year's Catalyst Award highlighted a partnership between Northwestern and ETHS promoting science, technology, engineering and math education in Evanston. This year’s recipient will be announced at the event.
A long list of local restaurants will dish their best gourmet food and beverages for a delicious "taste of Evanston."
SPACE is providing live music, and guests will also enjoy an unlikely lineup of other entertainers, including the cheerleading squads of Northwestern and ETHS.
In addition, the Corrine Passage Spirit of Evanston Award will be presented to an Evanstonian who has performed outstanding service in the past year. The award honors the memory of the late Ms. Passage of Pivot Point International who was one of the MashUp founders. Community members are encouraged to nominate potential award winners by survey.
The event will be held under a large, floored tent on the beach east of Northwestern's sports pavilion and aquatics center. Campus parking in the area is free after 4 p.m.
Tickets are $95 per person if purchased before Aug. 31 or $125 after. Young professionals under 35 can buy tickets for $50. For sponsorship opportunities, call the Evanston Chamber of Commerce at 847-328-1500.
