North Campus Drive Reconfigured During Construction

Drivers, pedestrians advised to use caution around construction site

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Construction at the sports pavilion and aquatics center requires a reconfiguration of North Campus Drive. The reconfiguration will occur in three phases.

Phase 1 goes into effect at 6 a.m. May 29. At that time a portion of North Campus Drive will be closed and traffic will be rerouted on a temporary road through the construction site as shown in the dark orange line above. Portions of this temporary road will be built of compacted gravel. The initial phase will accommodate a pedestrian path along the east side of the new route, with portions of the path also made of compacted gravel.

Phase 2 will require elimination of the pedestrian path adjacent to North Campus Drive. Pedestrians will access the sports pavilion and aquatics center and other area campus buildings south of the construction site by using the green paths as marked above.

The pedestrian path at the north has been shown to indicate the shortest route for those coming from Lincoln Street and areas north. The sidewalks along Lincoln Street and the east side of North Campus Drive adjacent to the reservoir parking lot will remain open primarily to allow access to the beach once it opens for the summer.

Facilities Management expects phase 1 of the temporary stone road will need to be in place for approximately three to four weeks. After that point, the temporary road (North Campus Drive) will shift to a location further west through the construction site.

Additional information will be provided regarding phase 2 and phase 3 of the reconfiguration. In the meantime, go to Facilities Management for updates on this and all campus construction projects.
